SDWAN Revenue Rankings 2019
Cybersecurity appliance vendor Fortinet is gaining ground with their SD-WAN offering according to IHS. Barely cracking the top ten just three months before, Fortinet displaced China’s telecom powerhouse Huawei in the top 2Q rankings. As in the previous quarter, VMware remains the top vendor by market share with Cisco, Aryaka, and Silver Peak rounding out the top 5. Interesting that there is an overall rise in SD-WAN revenues, which appear to be driven by organizations refreshing their old, rigid, legacy WAN edge equipment. SD-WAN has finally entered the mainstream.
Key highlights from the report include:
- $4.4 Billion in SD-WAN Vendor Revenue by 2020
- Application Delivery as a Service? What the heck? ADaaS?
- More clear definity of SD-WAN
A big concern is how organizations will track revenue costs as shifting digital transformation initiatives continue to drive cloud migration and OPEX vs. CAPEX.
“In our discussions with vendors, it has become apparent that most recognize SD-WAN as a mainstream technology,” said Josh Bancroft, senior research analyst at IHS Markit. “As a result, larger enterprises have begun to refresh their legacy, router-centric WANs with SD-WAN. Vendors are capitalizing on the refresh opportunities with customers that have large bases of aging router equipment.”

It’s interesting to see that Fortinet continues to expand their partnerships with companies like Windstream. We will be curious to see how Fortinet continues to grow and take market share.
